We are fortunate to live is a city teeming with parks and trails. If you’re looking for a fun and exciting outdoor adventure, look no further than Rouge National Urban Park. It was officially established as a national park in 2015 and it covers a jaw-dropping 79 square kilometers of land.
Things to See and Do
I’ve taken kids there for hikes as a scout leader, I’ve take my own kids, neices and nephews as well as friends and family. The park is large enough that it’s not just one type of terrain so you can enjoy forests, open spaces, cliffs and water features. I’ve had fun geocaching with my son and you quickly lose track of time. In the winter time you can go snowshoeing and cross country skiing. It’s a great time to get an idea of how much wildlife there is as you will spot their tracks much easier in the snow. Be on the lookout for a variety of birds, butterflies, deer and more along the way!
Check the link at the bottom to discover where you can see some interesting historical sites, including old farmsteads, Indigenous heritage sites, and remnants of early settlements. You can learn all about the rich cultural history of the area while taking in the beauty of the natural surroundings.
