Introduction

Markham is blessed with an abundance of parks and trails which allow you to explore the city from natural settings.  Markham offers over 22 kilometers (approximately 13.7 miles) of picturesque pathways adorned with 12 charming bridges.

Milne Dam Park

We have always lived close to this park but never REALLY explored it until our recent move that brought us so close we couldn’t help but explore it to it’s fullest.  Markham, Milne Dam Conservation Park offers a serene escape. Whether you’re strolling along the trails, enjoying the waterfront, or simply unwinding amidst nature, this park provides a tranquil experience.

What's so great?

Markham offers an interactive website that you can use to explore all the trails and parks.  What we love about this particular trail is that it connects with many other trails which means, the park is a great place to begin!  We have hiked east where we saw water cascades, the winding river, steep cliffs, wooded area’s and open area’s.  We had the good fortune to see several herons in the waters and the hike has a nice mix of sunny and shady sections.  So far I’ve gone as far as the 407 but talking to other hikers the path carries on into Boxgrove.  Going west we were able to walk to Unionville where we enjoyed sitting in the front of Jakes on Main before heading back for a total trip distance of 12 km!

Getting there.

You can take advantage of the website hosted by the City of Markham or download the AllTrails App which we discovered during COVID.  This is an excellent app which you can use to find a variety of trails all over.  It offers filters to choose your level of difficulty, distance and trek type of loop (never see the same place twice) or a there and back.

What are your recommended hikes?

When time allows we love exploring everything Markham has to offer and these nature trails really bring peace to our hearts.  Drop a comment and let me know what places do you love to go to?
